BMX tubes are located inside the tires and hold the air within the wheel. These tubes are crafted from various types of durable rubber and feature a tire valve, either a Presta or Schrader valve, to inflate the tube.
Given the nature of BMX riding, inner tubes will eventually need replacement. Whether you’re into freestyle or racing, you know that both disciplines subject the tires to hard impacts and repetitive pressure, inevitably leading to small or large punctures. Small punctures can be fixed with a repair patch kit, but if your BMX inner tube keeps losing air pressure, it’s time to purchase a new tube. For guidance on how to properly install your inner tube, check out our short video on How to Install BMX Tires and Inner Tubes.
What BMX Tube Size Do I Need?
Simply put, the size of your BMX tube should match the size of your BMX tire in terms of diameter and width. The most common tire diameter is 20 inches, so a 20-inch BMX tube would fit perfectly. The inner tube width is given as a range, for example, 1.70 - 2.5 inches. The tire width should fall within this range, but if it is slightly narrower or wider, it will still work.
When replacing your BMX tubes, it’s worth checking the condition of your tire. Over time, tires can lose traction or become more susceptible to punctures. If you’re considering new tires as well, check out our collection - BMX Tires.
