What Wheels Are Best for Surfskating?

Getting the right surfskate wheels plays a big part in replicating that surf feeling. The two main things to consider when buying a new set of wheels are the diameter and the hardness (durometer).

For diameter, it’s most common to use wheels between 60-70mm, although smaller sizes are available. Anything over 70mm increases the risk of wheel bite when riding. Smaller wheels allow for faster acceleration but have a lower top speed.

Wheel hardness is measured on the durometer scale, similar to other skate wheels. The higher the number, the harder the wheels. Softer wheels offer more grip, while harder wheels provide more speed. The choice depends on personal preference; however, a durometer between 78A - 84A offers good all-around performance. Another factor to consider is your weight.

When Should I Replace My Surfskate Wheels?

Surfskate wheels have no fixed lifespan, so replacement depends on how often you skate and how you use them. If they start losing their original shape and develop flat spots, it’s time to look for a new set. Remember to also maintain the bearings.
