What BMX chainring should you choose?
Chainrings are a necessity when gaining and maintaining speed. How fast you can go is decided by the size of the front chainring. A rule of thumb is, that more teeth allow for a higher top speed, while fewer teeth on the chainring provides a faster acceleration. On a Race BMX Bike the most common number of teeth on the front chainring are between 38 to 45.
Our race BMX chainrings can either be mounted with 4 or 5 bolts, this is known as a bolt-drive. It is normal to have big cut-outs in the chainring in order to make the chainring more lightweight. For the same reason, the materials used for the chainring is usually aluminum.
